I’m not much on breakfast, but this place was outrageously good! I found myself at Wild Eggs in Lexington on a Saturday morning and although it was packed, I was able to get right in. I will say, the restaurant is a little loud with so many people.
I started with a Strawberry Lemonade Mimosa … it didn’t impress me too much. The flavor of strawberry lemonade just wasn’t there other than the fresh strawberry placed on the rim for an added touch. Maybe I should have opted for a regular mimosa?
Potato Head Casserole
The Mad Platter
The food however, was amazing! I opted for the Potato Head Casserole. This did not disappoint. It was made with hashbrown potatoes on the bottom, baked with sour cream, onions, spices and cheddar-jack cheese. This was topped with crumbled sausage, tomatoes, poblano peppers, mushrooms, queso and an egg your way. I chose an over-easy egg. Let me say again, I am usually not a breakfast person, and I am one that doesn’t do ketchup with breakfast or spicy with my eggs … but this concoction was outstanding. The flavor from the sausage and pepper was there, but not overbearing or spicy, along with the creamy queso and a little bit of hashbrown to round it all out. It was a very well-balanced dish, and one I would definitely recommend.
My companion on this day got The Mad Platter with a side of toast. This came with three eggs, cooked the way you want; sausage and/or bacon (you can pick just one or both) and the server even asked if you want the bacon crispy, which was great; skillet potatoes which were spot on with seasoning. It also included a buttermilk pancake, which, sadly, wasn’t anything to write home about. But they do offer strawberry syrup! They have a lot of unique dishes, and since I sat close by the kitchen, I was able to see most everything coming out. It looked divine! Definitely worth another trip to taste some more.
As a side note, if you’re an early bird, you can get the early bird special. With this you can save 20% off food and non-alcoholic beverages if you dine-in before 8:30 a.m. They also have an offer for $5 off $25 if you sign up for text messages. I’m all about saving some money!
